What is home care and home health care?

For the most part, it involves helping older adults, people with disabilities and those released from the hospital with activities of daily living.


Usually services required include personal support for bathing, dressing, eating, cleaning cooking and many other services. It can also involve nurses for medications, would care, physical therapy and other services that might be required.

How much does home health care cost?

The cost depends on the type of care or services required, but in general, Home Care Personal Support or Companion Services cost from $20-$30 per hour and up to $300 for 24-hour care.

Does OHIP cover my home care or do i pay?

Yes, a good number of Home Care Services are covered by OHIP. However, services covered are limited and some are covered for a limited amount of time. Additional Services are usually paid through private insurance or out of pocket.


For example, if one needs bathing 4 times a week, OHIP might cover only 2.
